It began in 1980 when a manager of a Louisiana Wal-Mart had severe problems with shoplifting. To deter people from stealing, he placed a woman by the front door. This woman was charged with simply greeting people as they walked in and asking them if they needed any help.

The mere presence of this woman helped discourage potential shoplifters, who immediately thought twice about it. When Sam Walton, the company founder, visited the store, he made it universal and a Wal-Mart trademark. In the end he claimed this helped customers because less shoplifting results in lower prices!

Big Games of Thrones fan? Remember the torture scene with the rat in the heated pot? Well, that was an actual method of torture used during the Red Terror! The Red Terror occurred in Soviet Russian, and back during this era there were several events occurring, such as mass killings, torture, and systematic oppression.

One of the torture methods that were used was one in which rats were placed in iron tubes sealed at one end with wire netting and the other placed against the body of a prisoner, with the tubes being heated until the rats gnawed through the victim’s body in an effort to escape.

This was only one of the torture methods used during the red terror, some people were frozen to death, others skinned people to make gloves, and these are just some of the terrible things that people would use to torture back then.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are notorious for creating the offensive tongue and cheek cartoon South Park, as well as creating the internationally renowned musical, The Book of Mormon - a play that won 9 Tony’s. They are also famous for creating the Puppet film, Team America: World Police. The film pokes fun at many international issues and conflicts, including North Korea.

However, the film almost wasn’t made. Originally, Matt Stone and Trey Parker wanted to do a shot for shot movie puppet parody of the film ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ but their team of lawyers said that if they made that film, there would be legal problems.

Greek taxi driver Gregorios Sachinidis from Thessalonica donated his 1976 Mercedes to the Mercedes Benz Museum Collection! It may seem like a classic Mercedes from the outside, but on the inside, more importantly when looking at the mileage, you will see that his car has 4.6 million kilometers on it!

The massive distance covered by this single taxi cab has been a milestone in convincing people that Mercedes-Benz cars can travel an extremely far distance before they need to be turned in! Since Gregorios Sachinidis was donating his car to the Museum, Mercedes-Benz decided to donate a brand new C 200 CDI to be picked up by him, whenever he feels ready after he returns to his home in Thessalonica!

TIE fighters are one of the more iconic creations in the original Star Wars trilogy. They are easily recognized, and identified to be space ships from Star Wars. Not only is the physical design of the TIE fighters recognized, but the unusual sound that the fighters produce is also iconic.

The sound, which can’t even be described accurately, was created by sound designer Ben Burtt. Ben Burtt stated that he was able to come up with such an usual sound by combing an elephant call with the sound of a car driving on wet pavement!

TIE fighters are so iconic, that the model used in the actual filming of Star Wars: A New Hope sold at an auction for $350,000! Fans have even collaborated to build a 1,000 pound, 16 by 20 ft TIE fighter for the Star Wars thirtieth anniversary gala in 2007!

A recent survey revealed that 81% of people were completely unaware that brushing your teeth after you eat a breakfast which includes juice or any sugary foods can actually permanently damage your teeth!

The reason you can suffer from permanent enamel damage is because sugar foods and beverages make the enamel on your teeth weak, and if you brush your teeth immediately after your enamel is weakened, you can damage your precious teeth! So, what should you do?

Dentists recommend brushing your teeth BEFORE breakfast, rather than after. However, you can also lay off the sugary foods in the morning, wait an hour after eating to brush your teeth, or, have some cheese or milk to help balance out the acids in your mouth!

Solomon Manjoro and an accomplice entered a national park in order to illegally hunt animals, when they began tracking an elephant through the park. Since ivory sells for such a high price, the poachers believed it was in their best interest to kill the elephant - something that should be an easy task considering they had a high powered gun.

Well, it seems even animals are rising up to stop poaching in Africa. As the men raised their weapon to the animal, the elephant began to charge at the men in self defense. Unfortunately for Manjoro, there isn’t much you can do when a massive animal such as an elephant began to runs at you. Police found his trampled remains after his accomplice fled the scene, and was picked up by park rangers and charged with owning an unlicensed firearm.

Most cars have airbags to protect their passengers. As such their located on the inside of the car. Volvo has come up with a new airbag that protects pedestrians and is located on the outside of the car underneath the front hood. It is meant for cars driving in cities where there is heavy pedestrian traffic. It operates at speeds of 20-50 km/hr (about 12-30 mph).

The car has sensors on the front that detect a human form and this causes the airbag to deploy. It helps protect the victim in two ways. First, it lifts the front hood to give more space between the person and the hard parts of the engine. Second, the actual air bag covers and creates a cushion over the lower part of the windshield.
