On some level, you probably know the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, either from the Disney version or the two 2012 films. In many modern versions of the story, Snow White’s stepmother asks her magic mirror “Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
She receives the response that Snow White is more beautiful than she, and so she orders a huntsman to kill her, but he decides against it and Snow White runs away, meeting the seven dwarves.
Most of these details have remained consistent in the various interpretations, but the “death” of Snow White is what has changed. In the modern versions, Snow White is given a poisoned apple, which she eats and falls into a deep sleep from, until a prince sees her and wakes her with his kiss (in some versions, she dies from the poison apple).
In the original version, however, the poisoned piece of apple was simply lodged in her throat, and was dislodged while the prince was moving the coffin. In some versions, she died from asphyxiation. In others, it was an enchantment that was lifted when the piece was dislodged.
What’s typically omitted much more often, however, is how the evil queen was punished by being forced to dance is heated iron shoes until she died.http://bit.ly/KYIuUx
