There is a hand in Texas Hold Em known as Anna Kournikova because it “looks good but rarely wins.”

In poker, a hole card or pocket card is basically a card that is face down. In poker communities, it’s common for hole cards to be given nicknames depending on the combination of cards.

Hands are often named based on the strength of the hands, like how pairs of aces are occasionally referred to as rockets. Though most combinations have a relatively well known nickname among poker circles, stronger handed ones are much more recognized, such as “Big Slick,” which is an Ace and King of the same suit.

Any combination of an Ace and a King, including Big Slick, has also occasionally been called Anna Kournikova because despite appearances, it doesn’t usually win. Another reason is because it shares the initials AK (Ace, King). Anna Kournikova is a retired female tennis player. She reached #8 in the world, but never won a singles title.
