Andre was a French pro wrestler and actor. He is best known for his role of Fezzik on “The Princess Bride.” His size was a result of acromegaly, which led him to be called “The Eighth Wonder of the World.”

Acromegaly is a syndrome where the pituitary glands produce excess growth hormones. It can cause severe disfiguring and premature death. In the World Wrestling Foundation, Andre was once a World Champion. In 1993, he was the first inductee into the WWF Hall of Fame. 

His billed height was seven feet five inches and his billed weight was 540 pounds. He was said to be able to drink a keg of beer in one sitting. He died in 1993 in his sleep of congestive heart failure in a Paris hotel room. He is survived by a daughter, Robin, who was born in 1979.
